Nicely detailed and unused 1941 postcard of Geronimo, famous Apache native American Indian chief! Geronimo defied the governments of two nations - Mexico and the United States - for 40 years. Born about 1834 near Fort Tulerosa in New Mexico, he eventually surrendered to General Crook in 1882, and was at peace with the government - for awhile. He owned one of the best farms at San Carlos, NM when trouble arose in 1883, with the authorities making an attempt to stop the brewing of “Tiswin,” a native intoxicant. Geronimo then led a band of hostiles and terrorized the inhabitants of Arizona, New Mexico, Sonora and Chihuahua. He surrendered to General Miles in 1885, and was deported to Florida. Later transferred to Fort Sill, Oklahoma, he died there in February 1909. From G. I. Groves’ 1941 “Famous American Indian Series,” No. 2, and a desirable native Americana collectible in excellent condition!
