The La Linera Industry was the first factory to be installed in Parets del Vallès,[1] it functioned as a textile colony of the time, but with the difference that it was installed in an already existing town. In September 1880 production began in the "Antonio Feliu Mechanical Fabrics" industry. This textile factory was made a reality by Mr. Antoni Feliu i Peix,[2] who decided to move production from Vilassar de Dalt to Parets del Vallès.
Several streets were created around the factory for the workers, since at that time Parets was an agricultural town, and also a school and the director's house (current Music School). For a long time it was the only factory in the town, and several streets and services were created around the industry that was the economic engine of the town. The factory closed its doors in 1971, and currently the factory grounds are a green space, called Parque de la Linera, which has still been renovated with improvement works inaugurated in June 2020.[3] The director's tower is still preserved, converted into the Municipal Music School; the La Cuna daycare, which had already fulfilled the function of daycare for the workers' children; the chimney, 23 meters; and the workers' houses, which follow English-style construction guidelines. Among the legacy of La Linera, two sculptural pieces of great beauty still remain today that show a spinning loom and a grill, carvings made by the renowned sculptor Frederic Marés.
History
La Linera was installed in Parets del Vallés between the Ca n'Oms mine and the Tenes River to be able to take advantage of the water, it began to produce in 1880[4] under the name "Tejidos Mecánicos Antonio Feliu" and had 38 workers and 28 looms, distributed between the two floors that made up the central warehouse, or old block as the production warehouse was known. The belts that moved the looms were driven mechanically thanks to a steam engine, which was fueled by coal. In 1890 the founder of the company died, which passed to his children, hence the company name was changed to "Hijos de Antonio Feliu".[5] In 1917 the company name changed again for the definitive Industria La Linera.SA. Starting in 1959, with the "Economic Stabilization Plan" multinationals and relations with other countries were established in our country, which meant that the oldinfrastructures had to be renewed to be competitive, unfortunately the Linera did not adapt to the new ones. times, and had to close its doors in 1971.[4]
Water
All the textile colonies were installed next to the rivers, to take advantage of the water to move the looms, and to bleach the fabrics, the exception is in La Linera, it was not entirely a colony, since it was installed in an existing town, nor It was not installed next to the river either, it was installed between the Ca n' Oms mine where they extracted the water to heat it and move the steam turbines to move the belts of the looms. This water was insufficient as soon as an administrative concession[6] was requested to extract 1,728 m3 every 24 hours, to make it a reality a 1 km mine was opened in the bed of the Tenes River, this led to a huge improvement in the bleaching and dry cleaner.
