Nanking, 1896, oval violet bilingual date stamp "NANKING LOCAL (POST) SEP 10 1(896)" in combination with German offices, forerunner crown & eagle 20 pf. blue tied "SHANGHAI 11/9 96" to Essen/Germany with 14 October 96 back stamp, also faint red Shanghai Local Post "F 11 SE 11 96" transit alongside. Sender German engineer resident in Nanking. Insect faults top left and unevenly opened, but complete.

Since that time both, the Mail Order House and Auction House Gärtner, have been united on 2.700 m2 in the easy accessible building owned by Christoph Gärtner.
Generous viewing and storage rooms, a private auction hall, enough parking space and an underground car park are available.
