42KR BRIEF 1870 NACH SÜDAFRIKA, EINE DER SELTENSTEN DESTINATIONEN DER KREUZERZEIT
Am 28.9.1870, während der deutsch-französische Krieg in seiner heißen Phase war, gab man in Augsburg einen Brief mit 6 Kr ockerbraun und 2 x 18 Kr zinnoberrrot Wappen nach Südafrika auf seinen Weg. Oben rechts notierte der Absender "PRMStr." - Per Royal Mail Steamer. Adressiert an "Mr. Robert Faehse, Willow Moore, via Longhloof Cap der guten Hoffnung" (Cape of good Hope), "South Africa". Die Post strich "South Africa" und notierte stattdessen "P.O. Willowmoore", wohin der Brief anschließend kostenlos weitergeleitet wurde. Der Brief wurde "P.D." gestempelt, da die Taxe von 42Kr bis 1Loth nach dem PV zwischen England und dem NDB von Juli 1870 korrekt für den Brief verklebt war. Von den 42Kr kassierte Bayern 6Kr, während 36Kr als Wfr. gutgeschrieben wurden, die links oben in Rötel mit "10 ¾" (Sgr.) notiert wurden. Das bestätigte die Post in London, mit dem Einkreisstempel "London PAID". Der Brief ging mit der "Cambria" der Union Steamship Company auf seinen etwa 17.000 km langen Weg. Die Beförderung des Briefes erfolgte über Augsburg - Ostende - Devonport - Madeira/ Kanarische Inseln - Westküste Afrika - Anlande Hafen Kapstadt - Prince - Albert/Westkap - Willowmoore/Ostkap (Willowmoore lag im östlichen Kapland, rund 600 km von Kapstadt entfernt). Die beiden oberen Marken sind auf dem Weg abgefallen und wurden ersetzt, die Stempel z.Z. neu gezogen. Die Korrespondenz des Herrn Robert Faehse, aus der eine Handvoll Briefe erhalten blieb, verdanken wir der Firma "Faehse & Fittig", die in der Periodika von Willowmoore erwähnt wird. Es sind bis heute nur eine Handvoll Briefe nach Südafrika, eine der seltensten Destinationen der Kreuzerzeit, bekannt. Spektakulärer Übersee-Brief in guter Bedarfserhaltung.
