- Entre 1915 et 1964, la base aérienne de Hornchurch était la plus importante au nord-ouest de Londres. Pendant la Première Guerre mondiale, des avions ont décollé ici pour abattre les Zeppelins qui bombardaient la capitale britannique. Au moment de la "Bataille d'Angleterre", c'étaient des Spitfire qui ont évité à partir d’ici une invasion allemande. Ensuite Hornchurch devenait également une base importante pour accompagner les vols de bombardements vers l'Allemagne. Plusieurs avions qui ont décollé d'ici ont été abattus au-dessus de la Belgique. Ces deux livres donnent un compte rendu exceptionnel de la base aérienne, de ses avions et de ses pilotes. La première partie va de 1915 à 1941 et la seconde de 1941 à 1964. Tenant compte de l'importance des unités stationnées ici et de la qualité du recherche historique, il s'agit d’une publication importante sur l’histoire de la Royal Air Force.
