According to the Greek legend, Aphrodite was born from the sea after Cronus castrated Uranus and threw his genitals into the ocean. The water began to bubble and foam on the spot where Uranus himself also fell, and suddenly a beautiful girl rose from the sea foam. The woman, Aphrodite, sailed to the banks of Cyprus on a giant scallop shell.
