Das Wiener Wasser ist berühmt für seine gute Qualität und seinen ausgezeichneten Geschmack – nicht viele Großstädte können sich dessen rühmen.

Kein Wunder, dass das Wiener Wasser so geschätzt wird, kommt es doch seit 150 Jahren direkt aus dem Gebirge in die Stadt. Am 24. Oktober 1873 wurde die Erste Hochquellenwasserleitung eröffnet, die Quellwasser aus dem Rax-Schneeberg-Gebiet bis in die Stadt leitet, gleichzeitig wurde der Hochstrahlbrunnen am Wiener Schwarzenbergplatz in Betrieb genommen. Geplant wurde die Hochquellenwasserleitung von Antonio Gabrielli, der Geologe Eduard Suess war Leiter der Wasserversorgungskommission, die die Errichtung einer Zuleitung für sauberes Trinkwasser für Wien beschlossen hatte. Aus mehreren Quellen fließt seitdem das Wasser über rund 280 Meter Höhenunterschied und über zahlreiche Aquädukte im freien Gefälle bis zum ersten Wasserbehälter am Rosenhügel in Wien. Etwas mehr als die Hälfte des Wiener Wassers gelangt über diese Leitung in die Stadt.

Vienna's water is famous for its good quality and excellent taste - not many big cities can boast this.

No wonder Vienna's water is so highly regarded, as it has been coming directly from the mountains into the city for 150 years. On October 24, 1873, the first high-level spring water pipeline was opened, bringing spring water from the Rax-Schneeberg region to the city, and at the same time the high-level fountain on Vienna's Schwarzenbergplatz was put into operation. The high spring water pipeline was planned by Antonio Gabrielli, the geologist Eduard Suess was head of the water supply commission, which had decided to build a supply line for clean drinking water for Vienna. Since then, water has flowed freely from several springs over a height difference of around 280 meters and via numerous aqueducts to the first water tank on Rosenhügel in Vienna. Just over half of Vienna's water reaches the city via this pipeline.
