Spain 2018 YT4998. 40th Anniversary Special Operations Group (G.E.O.). The Special Operations Group is the elite unit of the National Police Corps, demonstrating, for 40 years, its training and operational possibilities. The massacre that occurred during the 1972 Olympics in Munich, in which there was no unit specialized in resolving incidents like the one that occurred there, gave rise to the creation of numerous units in Europe. The first access course to this Unit was convened in 1977 following the example of the German anti-terrorist group GSG-9 in order to fight against terrorism and the various organized crime groups in Spain in the 70s. There are three basic values that characterize this unit recognized and praised by its namesakes throughout the world. The first is based on the human potential of the police officers who form it, having as its main exponent the special preparation that all its members receive to successfully confront the missions entrusted to them. The second is configured by the resolution capacity that the G.E.O. to put an end to especially critical situations in which action must be taken using the potential of the means at its disposal. For its part, the third has as its most relevant characteristic the vitality of the Unit to carry out any mission. The Special Operations Group is entrusted with the following functions:
- Release of people kidnapped or taken hostage.
- Arrest of terrorists and other dangerous armed criminals.
- Opening and entry into places used by terrorists and organized crime groups.
- Collaborate in the protection devices of high personalities in special cases with the establishment of devices that cover their visit to our country.
- Provide protection to Spanish embassies abroad in the event of a serious threat with the constitution of cells that reinforce the security of Spanish diplomatic delegations.
- Carry out underwater police services with the deployment of its divers to participate in search and recovery of corpses or effects used in the commission of a criminal act.
- Carry out any service that requires special qualification.
Their recognition has led them to be a benchmark in their specialty not only in Spain but even beyond our borders. The members of the G.E.O. They usually share cooperation days and practices with units that are part of the “Atlas” working group, which is made up of 36 anti-terrorist units from 30 European countries. La masacre acaecida durante la celebración en 1972 de las olimpiadas en Múnich en las que no había ninguna unidad especializada en la resolución de incidentes como el ocurrido allí, dio pie a la creación de numerosas unidades en Europa. El primer curso de acceso a esta Unidad fue convocado en 1977 siguiendo el ejemplo del grupo antiterrorista alemán GSG-9 con el fin de luchar contra el terrorismo y los diversos grupos de delincuencia organizada de la España de los años 70. Tres son los valores básicos que caracterizan a esta unidad reconocida y elogiada por sus homónimas en todo el mundo. El primero se basa en el potencial humano de los policías que la forman, teniendo como principal exponente la especial preparación que reciben todos sus integrantes para hacer frente y con éxito a las misiones que le son encomendadas. El segundo viene configurado por la capacidad de resolución que tiene el G.E.O. para poner fin a situaciones especialmente críticas en las que se tenga que actuar utilizando para ello el potencial de los medios de que dispone. Por su parte, el tercero tiene como característica más relevante la vitalidad de la Unidad para llevar a cabo cualquier misión. Al Grupo Especial de Operaciones le están encomendadas las siguientes funciones:
- Liberación de personas secuestradas o tomadas como rehenes.
- Detención de terroristas y otros delincuentes armados peligrosos.
- Apertura y entrada en los lugares utilizados por terroristas y grupos de delincuencia organizada.
- Colaborar en los dispositivos de protección de altas personalidades en casos especiales con el establecimiento de dispositivos que cubran la visita a nuestro país de las mismas.
- Dar protección a las embajadas de España en el extranjero en caso de grave amenaza con la constitución de células que refuercen la seguridad de las delegaciones diplomáticas españolas.
- Realizar servicios subacuáticos de carácter policial con el despliegue de sus buceadores para participar en labores de búsqueda y recuperación de cadáveres o efectos utilizados en la comisión de un hecho delictivo
- Llevar a cabo cualquier servicio que precise una especial calificación.
Su reconocimiento les ha llevado a ser todo un referente de su especialidad no sólo en España sino incluso más allá de nuestras fronteras. Los miembros del G.E.O. suelen compartir jornadas de cooperación y prácticas con unidades que forman parte del grupo de trabajo “Atlas”, el cual está integrado por 36 unidades antiterroristas de 30 países europeos. Correos ha querido sumarse a la celebración de esta efeméride emitiendo un sello al G.E.O. con un diseño sencillo donde todo el protagonismo lo tiene un miembro del G.E.O. con las gafas de visión nocturna y el equipamiento típico de acción. Todo ello enmarcado con el emblema de la Policía Nacional y las banderas de España y Unión Europea.
