Dr. Robert Hutchins Goddard, the American physicist who is regarded as the “father of the modern rocket.” In 1926, he developed and launched the first successful liquid-fuel rocket. Goddard also directed research for the Navy in World War II and helped pave the way for America’s Cold War-era “Space Race.”
