Lin Zexu(1785-1850), a famous statesman, was a high official in the government of the Ching dynasty.
He was recognized as an early pioneer in prohibiting the use of opium in China. During his term as Viceroy of Hunan and Kwangtung provinces, he successfully suppressed the selling and supplying of opium to opium-addicts.
