2015 150th Birthday of Dr. Sun Yat-sen Stamps. Formosa(Taiwan), Rep of China.
First day of issued: Nov 12,2015.
Dr. Sun Yat-sen was born Sun Wen, whose courtesy name was Zaizhi. He was named Nakayama Kikori during his stay in Japan. He was born on November 12 during the fifth year of Qing Emperor Tongzhi’s reign (1866) in Cuiheng village, Xiangshan County of Guangdong Province. Sun left home to study abroad at a young age, and his exposure to Western influences transformed his worldview. In light of the fecklessness of the Qing dynastic court, and the nation’s growing disintegration, Sun stepped up in revolution to overthrow of Qing. Undeterred by the 10 failed uprisings, Sun eventually overthrew the dynastic rule, and established a Republic nation-state. In April, 1940, the Nationalist Government announced the canonization of Sun Yat-sen as the "Founding Father of the Republic of China" in recognition of his monumental contribution.
