    I can see from the reverse of the card that this is Spanish but what is the ceremony that the boy is part of? What is the uniform ?

    Not 100% certain, but the photograph was taken in a (Roman Catholic) church - see the altar in the background. Someone from Spain might be more specific on this, but he could be an altar boy or the photograph was taken at this boys confirmation (of faith), ergo he might be a confirmand. There is some symbolism on the sash that the boy is wearing. An enlargement of image would be helpful.

    In my opinion the photo has not been taken in a church, but in a photographer's studio. It's not a real altar, but a canvas.

    As for the occasion I agree with kipvits: the photograph has probably been taken at the boy's confirmation.
