Australia, Scott #112 (Stanley Gibbons #122), used (o), 1931, Commemorating the Trans-Oceanic Flight of Sir Charles Edward Kingsford-Smith (1897-1935), stamp shows Kingford-Smith's 'Southern Cross' airplane flying over two hemisphere globes; in 1928 Charles Kingsford ‘Smithy’ Smith and Charles Ulm, along with two US crewmen, became the first people to cross the Pacific Ocean by air.; they did it in a three-engine airplane called the
Southern Cross; 3 penny, no watermark, perforated: 11, recessed engraved, Scott 2019 catalog value: $6.25. Nicely centered, light, quarter circular, single-rimmed, black-inked, socked-on-the-nose corner cancellation at the lower right and well clear of the main image, stamp has a bit of shading to it, color is a bit subdued, but is not toning, sound back, two hinge remnants, several scattered black-ink spots on the back, good perforations; centering and image free cancel warrants a selling price premium. This is not a 'bait-and-switch' offer. The stamp you see will be the one you receive.
